AI Use Policy

Via Nova Academy uses AI features only to help teachers and administrators create classroom content. AI is not available directly to students through Via Nova.

What AI Is Used For

Via Nova may use AI to help teachers or administrators generate:

  • Quiz or test questions.
  • Game questions or boards.
  • Classroom encounter or activity drafts.
  • Diagram or instructional content drafts.
  • Team or house avatars.

Teachers remain responsible for reviewing, editing, and approving AI-generated content before using it with students.

What AI Is Not Used For

Via Nova does not use AI to:

  • Grade students.
  • Profile students.
  • Generate content from student private records.
  • Provide student chatbot access.

Student Data Is Never Sent To AI

Via Nova's product policy is that student personally identifiable information and education-record data are never sent to AI services.

Teachers and administrators must not include the following in AI prompts or image-generation requests:

  • Student legal names.
  • Student display names.
  • Student email addresses.
  • SIS IDs or school identifiers.
  • Scores, grades, quiz attempts, or submissions.
  • Teacher notes about a student.
  • Any other information that identifies or could reasonably identify a student.

This applies to all student data, including child personal information processed through school-authorized use.

Vendor

Via Nova uses paid Google Gemini API access for AI features. Paid Gemini API access is relevant because Google provides stronger data-use commitments for paid API services, including not using prompts and responses to train or improve Google models under the applicable paid-service terms. This supports Via Nova's policy that AI is used only for teacher/admin content generation and never with student PII.

Human Review

AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, or inappropriate for a particular classroom. Teachers must review AI-generated content before assigning, presenting, or publishing it.

Disabling AI

Via Nova may disable AI features for a school, district, or account if required by policy, contract, or applicable law.
